January 25, 2023, is significant, not for me, and probably not for you, the reader of this blog post, but for historians of the future. Because with today, Germany has participated for the first time in decades in a war between two countries with heavier war equipment.
Helping a neighboring country in case of war should be a matter of course, even if self-interest plays a role, one does not want to have the enemy on one's own borders, but there is a line one should not cross when it comes to help and instead of interfering militarily, one should try to de-escalate the war diplomatically.
A history like Germany helped:
25.02.2022 – One day after the invasion: Germany sends 5000 helmets for Ukrainian military - but not to the country
26.02.2022 – Germany supplies weapons to the Bundeswehr - 1000 anti-tank weapons and 500 surface-to-air missiles are to come from Bundeswehr stocks. Chancellor Scholz spoke of an "obligation.
02.12.2022 – THW strengthens Ukrainian power supply with 470 generators
25.01.2023 – Germany delivers Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
25.01.2023 – Main battle tank delivery: Selenskyj grateful, Melnyk demands fighter jets and submarines
04.02.2023 – NATO fighter jets to be delivered to Ukraine
27.02.2024 – Macron does not rule out deployment of ground troops in Ukraine - Kremlin warns West
Ukraine - Emmanuel Macron on ground troops: Gregor Gysi warns of a third world war
Of course, other things have happened in the meantime, but one should recognize a pattern: Instead of de-escalating, the war is further fueled by more weapons and equipment. So the legitimate question arises, if one asks for attack tanks, fighter jets, submarines, what comes as the next demand? German soldiers "for a united Europe"? Tactical nuclear weapons? Conventional nuclear weapons or rather MOABs from the USA?
With the confirmation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the U.S. government under President Biden has agreed to send the Abrams tank from the U.S. to Ukraine.
From a continental war, becomes now a world war, since the USA, thus as active war party interferes, still without soldiers, however, how long remains in such a way?
The escalation spiral continues and that is worrying. Because a war against Russia, you can not win, that tried Nazi Germany in World War 2 and was failed by the Soviets and this time, it will not look different. After every peace follows a war.
And before one wants to call me Putin Versteher, so I stand neutral, and support no side, but wants only one thing: Peace in Europe and this must be possible without blood, with diplomacy.
